It's dark and moody with bar seating and a long banquette stretching deep into the room, and music now adding and ambient note. Starters revolve around a selection of house-cured meats while the "Main Menu" mixes it up with dishes that can serve as either entree or main; and several dishes to share is the way to go. This is modern, creative food that echoes its sibling restaurant The Bentley on Crown Street, although it's a slightly "lite" version thereof. But Monopole's focus is about the wine. This is eclectic, extensive and ... expensive; with 30-odd by the glass or carafe and hundreds by the bottle. Most of the staff don't have much idea about the wines but the owner is a font of knowledge and good advice.
