REVIEW:
Margaret River region is a strange area where most of the food and wine is found outside the towns and villages in the area. Colonial is one of several boutique breweries in the middle of rolling countryside - this one 6k off the road 4km north of Margaret River township. Here you'll find a striking modern building with a ceramic cow standing guard ... there's another inside. An interesting range of six beers is lead by Kolsch and Pale Ale, plus Porter, IPA and Witbier, with one a seasonal brew in strictly limited quantities. A paddle can be purchased to taste the range, and individual beers are poured in elegant tall glassware, making it tempting to chill out in the smart, casual lounge or outdoors on sunny days. Takeaway is only available in refillable 2Litre "Colonial Growlers", reducing the carbon footprint (and probably the amount of beer drunk at home) and creating an identity for the brewery. Good beers, good food, great space ... go there!
