REVIEW:
The food in this beautiful setting overlooking the lake can be stunning, and the best would lift the rating another point. The odd dish can lack focus and not quite maintain the very high levels that can be achieved, but these are rare. So choose well from often locally sourced produce cooked well and you'll dine as well as is possible anywhere in Victoria.
A stunning wine list and the sunny disposition of the staff make for a memorable occasion.
Stay the night, or two, in the beautiful accommodation - see Gourmet Travel Guide for details.

Sample some of Australia's best regional food and wine at Lake House and stay awhile. Indulge yourself. We have wonderful rooms and suites, full resort and conference facilities, on tranquil Lake Daylesford.

Lake House has an enviable record of national and international awards for service, ambience cuisine and cellar. We are just 80mins from Melbourne's CBD and 60 minutes from Melbourne airport.

Over the years Lake House has collected an enviable number of wine, food and service awards. These include most recently "Victoria's Best Country Restaurant" from the Renault Haute Cuisine Awards 2002 and the "Best of Award of Excellence" from New York Wine Spectator 2000-2002.

The Dining Room, sunlit by day, boasts magnificent views through its large expanse of windows. At dusk, the kookaburras fly in to be fed on the outdoor terraces. The restaurant glows with the magic and romance of candlelight. A log fire provides a warm welcome in Winter. In Summer, tables are set outdoors overlooking the water, under large shady umbrellas, or in the open, balmy sweet evening air.

Enjoy contemporary Australian cuisine which pays homage to the best available seasonal produce and the efforts of local regional suppliers. A team of talented, dedicated young cooks, under the direction of Executive Chef Alla Wolf Tasker, work from the ground up producing virtually everything on the premises.

Waterfront Rooms provide enchanting views overlooking the foreshore of Lake Daylesford with private balcony, king or twin beds, fold out sofa bed and easy chair. Each room also has television with cable, minibar and full ensuites.

Waterfront Suites are the newest addition to the Lake House property. They are spacious and luxurious with private balconies or terraces overlooking the lagoon and Lake Daylesford beyond. Each room is furnished with contemporary interiors, king or twin beds, private lounge area with double fold out sofa bed, easy chair and ottoman. All the luxuries of double spa bath, dual shower, heated bathroom and walk in wardrobes complete the picture of your ultimate home away from home. If you fancy some entertainment, CD, VCR, DVD, cable TV and internet are also at your fingertips.

The rooms and suites are surrounded by several acres of beautiful manicured gardens, waterfalls and streams.

Take a few days to recharge in the fresh air. Enjoy a quiet read in the spacious lounge or on the terraces overlooking the water. Have a hit of tennis followed by a massage and some soaking in the spa/sauna room.

A myriad of bushwalking tracks meander from the property. Nearby are boating facilities, local wineries, excellent artist's studios and galleries, places of historical interest, magnificent gardens and an 18hole golf course complete with kangaroos. Then of course there are the beauty treatments and holistic therapies the region is noted for. We will also understand if the indulgence of great food, excellent wines, good service and wonderful surroundings is all you require.

Spring and Summer provide an abundance of flowers, fruit and vegetables from our local growers. There is the opportunity to dine alfresco overlooking the water. Autumn's clear crisp days are framed by the gloriously coloured European trees planted by the area's original Swiss and Italian settlers. Winter's frosty alpine air encourages walks through mist-laden valleys alongside rushing streams and waterfalls, returning to the warmth and comfort of the lounge with its open fire.
