Mount Eyre Vineyards

Mount Eyre Vineyards was established in 1970 by Neil Grosser, who remains the chief viticulturist. Situated in Broke, in the lower Hunter Valley, the 24 hectares of vineyards enjoy some of the Hunter Valley's best terroir for viticultural activity.

The Vineyards were purchased by the Iannuzzi and Tsironis families in 1994 and using only estate grown fruit, produces premium quality shiraz, Semillon and chardonnay.

With an annual vintage in the order of 200 tonnes, about half of the fruit is kept for the premium range of wines, and the remainder sold to other premium Hunter wine producers. The winemaker has access to state-of-the-art winemaking facilities to ensure the product is of the highest order. The wine is sold through cellar door sales, prestige wine clubs, and through a select number of independent liquor retailers and restaurants.

Mount Eyre Vineyards combines a European family tradition of winemaking, a generation of experience in Australian viticulture, as well as one of the most dynamic winemakers in the world.

From roots in the tiny towns of Alestena, in the Peleponese, Greece, and Vallo della Lucania, Italy, the Tsironis and Iannuzzi families have an unbroken involvement in wine extending back centuries, tilling their vines and offering wine to friends and visitors alike.

Mount Eyre Vineyards has been energetic and innovative, typifying the vigour and vision of the modern Australian wine industry, to produce distinctive high quality regional wines for the pleasure of the world's wine drinkers. As well as domestic sales, Mount Eyre Vineyards enjoys a steadily expanding export market.

At Mount Eyre Vineyards there is great respect for terroir. They have combined the different types of soils, aspects and altitude of the exceptional vineyards to produce distinctive regional wines.

The Australian vineyard story starts in Broke, in the Hunter Valley, where the Three Ponds vineyard lies on the sandy loam river flats of Monkey Place Creek. Planted in 1970 by Neil Grosser, it is still carefully managed by Neil and his sons Greg and David today. In Broke, Mount Eyre Vineyards have over 50 acres of Semillon, Chardonnay, Cabernet and Shiraz, providing the heart of the wine offerings.

To any astute judge of vineyards, Mount Eyre Vineyards' second property, the Holman Estate, Pokolbin, represents a most exceptional site. In the heart of the Hunter Valley, its deep red loams have proven their worth and been shown by history to be the backbone of many great Hunter Valley red wines. Here 16 acres are planted. It is also the site of Mount Eyre Vineyards guesthouse and olive grove, where a small quantity of premium olive oil is produced.

Mount Eyre Vineyards are honoured to have recruited one of New Zealand's, and in fact the worlds, most talented winemakers, C.P. Lin. A blind winemaker, Lin gained his reputation as one of the best makers of pinot noir and chardonnay at Mountford Estate, outside Christchurch in New Zealandýs South Island.

Mount Eyre Vineyards currently offers two ranges of wines. The Mount Eyre displays abundant fruit-driven flavours that have made Australian wines popular all around the world. Included in this range is the innovative sparkling wine, Neptune. The Three Ponds reserve range is for the astute wine drinker, who appreciates the subtleties of flavours and ageing fine wines. In the near future, C.P. Lin will launch a super-premium range, made in limited quantities for only the most special of occasions!
