Background

Gourmet Safaris was launched in June 1998 at the Food Media Club's Food Forum in Sydney and was one of the inaugural events offered on Tourism New South Wales' Feast of Sydney - The Food & Wine Festival, that year. It was so successful that the Feast of Sydney continued to offer it on the program in 1999 and 2000, after which the Festival itself was wound down.

Since 1998, Gourmet Safaris has been featured in the Sydney Morning Herald's Good Living Month every year and its unique design appealing to food lovers of all ages and across a wide spectrum, has led to sell out bookings and the need to schedule more and varied safaris to hitherto unknown food haunts.

Originally only offered in Sydney and its immediate environs, so popular was the demand to participate in these unique and fun filled food tours, that it was soon realised that other destinations would need to be included and in 2000, two years since its inception, the first overseas safari took place to Santa Fe, USA.

Since that time Gourmet Safaris has also run successful cooking and exploring tours to four different Greek Islands as well as offering an expanded program of Australian safaris - to the beautiful food and wine country of Mudgee, to the tropics of Far North Queensland and this year, our first tour to that rich food state - Tasmania.

What is Gourmet Safaris?

Gourmet Safaris offers a unique concept - a program of culinary adventures into exotic cuisines, most of which are easily accessible to any food loving person living in or around Sydney. Apart from the overseas safaris and the new intra and interstate safaris about to be introduced, the beauty of the Gourmet Safari product is the ability to deliver a fun- filled food experience visiting culinary food precincts in and around the city and at the same time learning about the culture and customs of the people living here and of course sampling their special cuisine - and all in a morning or an afternoon or evening and without the need to travel vast distances.
