A pleasant drive from Melbourne for the weekend this is one of the most relaxed gourmet weekends you can attend.

The Grampians Gourmet Festival - Weekend Highlights

The 12th annual Grampians Gourmet Festival will be held on May 3 & 4 2003 against the spectacular setting of the Grampians National Park at the Halls Gap Oval and surrounding wineries.

Expected to attract over 4000 visitors the Grampians Gourmet Festival has established itself as a premium event on the Victorian food and wine calendar.

The festival kicks off at 10.30am on Saturday morning and is followed by a full weekend program of activities and events.

Weekend Activities

A feature activity of the Festival is the Wine Tunnel where amateur wine lovers can put their knowledge to the test and bring a new level of understanding to the many wine varieties and winemaking techniques.

The Wine Options Challenge will be held at the Halls Gap Oval on Sunday 4 May between 1.30pm - 2.30pm and will see teams of three take on the challenge of identifying a series of brackets of masked wines. Winners will take home more than $500 dollars of Grampians Wines sponsored by Hyde Park Vineyard.

Winemakers dinners at Dunkeld, Stawell, Ararat, Great Western and Halls Gap take centre stage on Saturday night featuring gourmet cuisine expertly matched by superb wines and friendly first class hospitality. Keep your eye out for further information on these dinners shortly.

In other events across the weekend, OZACT - Australia's leading environmental Shakespeare company - will perform " A Feast Of Shakespeare in the Grampians" with four abridged works to be staged at four spectacular locations in the Grampians National Park.

For those who wish to venture away from the oval and onto the acclaimed Grampians wine trail on Sunday, further festival celebrations will be hosted around the region including Classic Brunches, Lunches, End Of Harvest Celebrations and Art Shows.

All in all, the Grampians Gourmet Festival is a total wine, food and entertainment experience not to be missed. Indulge your senses, tantalise your taste buds or just simply kick back and enjoy the picnic atmosphere.

The Grampians Fantastic Food Lovers Festival

Set against the spectacular backdrop and rugged grandeur of the Grampians National Park, the weekend festival celebrates food, wine, art, music and entertainment.

The Grampians Gourmet Festival provides a wonderful opportunity to taste your way around the region - olive oils; organic produce; yabbies; venison; fruit and berries; preserves; small goods; signature restaurant cuisine and superb variety of premium table wines are all on display throughout the colourful weekend with free samples on offer.

Be entertained by the annual auction of the Grampiansý trademark Shiraz Barrique; the wine tunnel; wine options challenge; winemaking and wine appreciation seminars; cooking demonstrations; informative talks on olive oil and coffee; and the popular wine makersý dinners.

Enjoy the local artistsý barrel painting competition, the scarecrows in the vineyard competition, live bands, roving entertainment and childrenýs activities, which all will be on throughout the weekend.

Festival tickets cost $15 for adults on Saturday and $12 for adults on Sunday; children under 15 are free. Tickets can be purchased at a discounted rate by calling the Ararat and Grampians Visitor Information Centre on 1800 657 158.

Food Beyond Belief

At the 12th annual Grampians Gourmet Festival the aromas of regional cuisine will permeate the air as food and local product producers open the lids on a wide range of gourmet fare including organic fruits, game meats, cheeses, olive oils, honey, sheeps milk products, yabbies, berries, preserves, small goods and signature restaurant cuisine.

The Grampians Gourmet Festival is an irresistible invitation to sample or indulge in a delightful variety of regional foods superbly complemented by a wide selection of premium table wines from the Grampians, Pyrenees and Ballarat wine regions.

Festival goers are invited to roam amongst the variety of marquees and market stalls, participate in the wine and food appreciation seminars or kick back and enjoy a picnic of unique country produce selected along the way. Food exhibitors will be providing tasting samples throughout the duration of the weekendý a perfect way to sample your way around before buying your favourite plates or platters.

With the focus on the Grampians Region, local produce will be in abundance. Take the opportunity to meet local food producers and winemakers. Relax on the oval lawns, enjoy the music and entertainment or cleanse your palette with a boutique ale at the Jumbuck Inn.

A number of Grampians Winemakers Dinners will take place on Saturday night which consistently prove popular with locals and visitors alike.
