REVIEW:
One of the best wine producers in the area at both the commercial Estate/Richland label level (which produces wines at exceptional value for money including the best Riverina sauvignon blanc year to year) and especially under the prestige 3 Bridges label. The Calabria Family label includes Italian varieties that are exemplary in both quality and value. These wines represent some the very best wines from the area and are selected with great care to represent the winery.
Look out for the 3 Bridges Durif and the sticky, and also the Barossa shiraz releases from the 1912 Hahn vineyard.

In 1994 Bill Calabria shaped a new vision for Westend Estate. He made the momentous decision that Westend Estate would only bottle the best wine which had a capability of winning gold medals at open exhibition. He wanted to produce a completely new range of boutique style, limited edition wines of excellence.

To facilitate the development of new and improved varieties and ensure 100% control of quality procedures, in 1994 Westend Estate purchased a 50% share in 51 acres of prime vineyard. This was located in Hanwood (the district of the first Riverina wine plantings), producing over 400 tonnes of grapes. This investment provided an additional supply of wine grapes to allow for the anticipated increase in sales.

Thus began the new era of growth, development, investment and sustainability for Westend Estate. New fermentation tanks, laboratories, and offices where built and now the single most dramatic change in fifty years has occured.

The wines produced at Westend Estate in Griffith, NSW have already received accolades in Australia and around the world for their excellence and elegant structure. Now, the "Estate" has been given a new look, with re-vamped and extended facilities which display the same attention to detail as that bestowed on the wines.

Over 2000 people attended the opening of the new facility which includes a new Tuscan style facade, elegant cellar door and tasting area with beautiful wood panelling, wines, trophies and art works tastefully displayed and colourful murals by a local artist.

The adjoining function room, which could easily accommodate 200 people, has an open, fully equipped kitchen with wood fired and regular pizza ovens and a covered outside area with picnic facilities where visitors can enjoy the warmth of the surroundings and the landscaped gardens.
The Reception area and offices have all been treated to the same up grading and the adjacent winery with its gleaming stainless steel and rows of immaculate wooden barrels invites inspection by interested visitors.

Many months of work has gone into making Westend Estate one of the most appealing and functional cellar door facilities in Australia. It is expected to be a draw card for visitors to the Riverina in addition to the local community, many of whom had contributed to the extensions and joined winemaker, Bill Calabria, and his extended family in the celebrations.
