REVIEW:
Twenty years must make the Hanging Rock winery one of the true successful pioneers of this area, and its flagship sparkling wine Macedon rates as one of Australia's best, based in style on Krug & Bollinger. Do we have a problem with that? I think not, especially when it's as good as this. Late disgorged versions are even better.
The reds and whites are also excellent, from the single-vineyard Jim Jim whites, the classic Heathcote Shiraz, to an array of wines sources from various vineyard areas and the value Odd Man Out value varietals, there is something for all.

The Hanging Rock Winery was established in 1983 and is located in Australiaýs coolest grape growing region; The Macedon Ranges, just an easy one hour drive from Melbourne.

In 1982 with a wealth of knowledge behind them, John & Ann Ellis decided to purchase a block of land to fulfill their ambition to building their own winery. The bare block they chose, known as ýJim Jimý was ideal - ultra cool climate, south facing with decomposing basalt soil - a perfect site for realising their dream of producing Australiaýs finest sparkling wine.

Whilst they decided to build in the Macedon Ranges they have always had a love and affiliation with Heathcote as a Shiraz growing region. In 1992 they and Athol Guy (of ýSeekersý fame) planted the ýAtholýs Paddocký Vineyard to produce the highly acclaimed ýHeathcote Shirazý.

Today The Hanging Rock Winery is the largest winery in the Macedon Ranges. It boasts an extensive range of wines which showcases some of the best regions in Victoria. The goal has always been to select premium grapes from areas of Victoria best suited to the particular variety.

Passion and expertise has resulted in an exciting and extensive range of wines which we hope will give you as much joy as it does to us.
