2013 Gartelmann Phillip Alexander
Wine

Country of origin: Australia
Area/Appellation: Mudgee
Variety/Style: Cabernet / Merlot
Cellaring: Now - 2020
Supplier Agent: Gartelmann Wines
Availability: Raedily
Price Range: $25.00

Tasting Note:
It says Mudgee on the front label but the vineyard source is at 630m altitude near Rylstone, so a relatively cooler climate.
The blend is a 55/21/24% "Bordeaux" blend mix of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot and shows dark berry and plum fruits, lovely oak spice and soft tannins.
Despite of lot of hype, there are some very ordinary merlots on the market. This blend shows what can be done with it with more than a little help from its Bordeaux stalemates. This lovely wine - at a very reasonable price - reminds me why we shouldn't abandon quaffing cabernet family wines.
