2001 Abercorn Reserve Shiraz Cabernet

Country of origin: Australia
Area/Appellation: Mudgee
Variety/Style: Shiraz / Cabernet blend
Cellaring: Now-2011
Supplier Agent: Cellar Door
Availability: Very limited - 250 cases only
Price Range: $50.00

Tasting Note:
Sourced from selected grapes from various growers in the area as well as the home vineyard with components of 35% cabernet and 5% merlot, this is more immediately accessible than the straight shiraz Reserve. The licorice is still evident but also more blackcurrant and chocolate and lower but still obvious vanilla and spice from the oak. The palate is more elegant and less aggressively tannic so, although it will cellar shorter, it is already attractive drinking. No surprises in was "most outstanding wine in show" in Mudgee 2002.

Food Match: Steak Bearnaise
