2001 i - Nebbiolo
Wine

Area/Appellation: King Valley
Variety/Style: Nebbiolo
Cellaring: Now-2009
Supplier Agent: Dromana Estate
Availability: Limited
Price Range: $25.00

Tasting Note:
Nebbiolo is a difficult variety that is often over-worked & over-extracted, becoming dull, flat and tarry and aggressively acidic and tannic ... even the Piemontese make this mistake. But, at its best, it can be an ethereal red of exceptional quality.
This wine is one of the first Australian wines of the varuety that captures both elegance and depth: red rose petal, dark cigar tobacco, hints of black earth on the nose. Certainly not a Barolo but an interesting and very attractive attempt finishing with silky tannins.

"Since 1993 we have worked with Nebbiolo to bring out the characters that come to the fore in the best Italian versions. The stunning 2000 King Valley vintage has provided all the right elements - a lovely perfume of roses and violets is followed by an earthy palate of dried fruits, stewed plums and the classic Nebbiolo tarry, tannin grip.

Enjoy it anytime over the next 10 years, ideally with a platter of good Italian cheeses."
